A first-person anti-utopian narrative adventure blending puzzles and psychological horror.

Explore a surreal Eastern European world where a train becomes a gateway to memories and distorted realities.

CONCEPT

Welcome on board of FRUSTRAIN – narrative XR game, told through the eyes of five strangers trapped overnight on a train cutting through the endless snow.

Frustrain is a powerful dystopian experience about how totalitarianism becomes a personal nightmare — how fear turns into the only language memory can speak.

Totalitarianism isn’t politics — it’s daily fear, expressed through the suppression of will,

the erasure of identity, and profound isolation.

In Frustrain, we explore this fear not through facts or direct depictions of authoritarian regimes, but through emotional metaphors.

We focus on the player's feelings — using symbolic visuals, dreamlike architecture,

a sense of unease, and fragmented gameplay that mirrors a traumatized mind. This approach allows Frustrain to resonate with a wide audience, beyond historical or cultural specifics.

The core concept of the game is the logic of a frightened person’s dream. Our gameplay, art, and storytelling all emerge from this idea. The protagonist — a refugee fleeing the horror of their homeland — falls asleep on a train, and their consciousness begins to process the trauma in disjointed, surreal images. The player navigates these dream-fragments, gradually piecing together what happened and reclaiming the protagonist’s identity, lost under the weight of fear, repression, and memory distortion.

This is not a linear story, but an unconscious reconstruction of trauma, with the train itself becoming a metaphor — a journey from the past toward a fragile, possible awakening.

FRUSTRAIN: TRAINMAN

Trainman is a first episode of The FRUSTRAIN anti-utopian adventure,

set entirely aboard a surreal Eastern European night train.

Trapped in his carriage for decades, a weary conductor relives a single crime he once chose to ignore. As the train stretches into an endless labyrinth, the player explores shifting spaces, scavenges, solves environmental puzzles, and uncovers fragmented memories that blur dream and reality.

The experience follows the logic of fear itself — a looping, uneasy journey through guilt, survival, and distorted time.

We invite you to experience Demo version of our

first chapter TRAINMAN, developed exclusevely for

VIVERSE platform.

Available in browser-based desktop,

mobile and WebXR versions.

In addition to TRAINMAN, we published multplayer WAITING HALL world, where you can find more information about the game, meet with fellow passengers and creators and discuss the game.

REACTIONS
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
In 2021 our team (Pavel Pavlyukov as an artistic director, Dmitry Vorobev as lead developer, Georgy Molodtsov as XR director and line producer) was invited to collaborate with Jean-Michel Jarre and VRROOM on OXYMORE Immersive musical experience, associated with the release of his new album, for which Pavel also designed visual style and cover.

Pavel was selected based on the visual concept of FRUSTRAIN, which fully fit the idea that Jean-Michel Jarre had in mind for his project.

We created a virtual metropolis, consisting of stylized vintage musical equipment, where Jean-Michel Jarre's live performances took place.
OXYMORE received various international awards and is listed as one recommended world in VRChat with over 350.000 visitors to date.
